On HypnoBirthing

Have I told you about HypnoBirthing? I love it. It saved me... I knew that if I got an epidural with Nikell there would be dire consequences and so decided to go natural. And it was an amazing experience. Now, a couple of years later, another baby is on it's way and I have been brushing up on my hypnobirthing skills. With Nikell, I simply stayed home until she was on her way down and out and then we turboed it to the hospital. It worked well enough. There are a few things I don't tolerate well...nurses, hospital beds, that stupid painful fetal monitor that they strap onto your belly while you're in the middle of a contraction, nurses thinking that their stupid paper work is more important than your actual situation or well-being, being confined to a hospital bed, oh, and the fetal moniter! Ha ha. So, last time, I went in and had the baby 20 minutes later. But, even then, it was a 20 minute (albeit silent) fight with the nurses. They would try to hook me up, and I would simply swat them away. Jason would then say, "I don't think she wants that on." The nurses would nicely explain that they are trained robots and only know how to do what they have always done and then we would start the fight all over again. In my head I was thinking, "Just let me have the baby. I have been home and in labor for 8 hours and no one has been monitering the heartbeat of my baby the whole time and now I just need you to get her out! The heartbeat doesn't matter! What are you going to do? A c-section from the birth canal? She's already down there and headed out, just get her out PLEASE!" But, alas, they are what they are, mindless at times, and the fight continued. Thankfully, I won, becuase Nikell really was coming out and their monitering really didn't matter...

Anyway, I decided to have a little chat with my doctor this time around. I politely asked her to use the doppler (the one they use at your appointments) instead of strapping the moniter to my poor aching belly. Her reply? "I too am a mindless robot that relies on the paper feed to cover my back in any given situation." Hmmm. Let me put this another way. "I am giving you fair warning that I will not allow them to put the fetal monitor on me. If you want to moniter the heartbeat of my baby you will have to find another way to do it." She said, "I am still mindless robot, but maybe if you absolutely deny it then we could possibly try something else." Ha ha. Not that it matters, I don't plan on being there all that long.

Doctors drive me absolutely nuts.

I am glad that you have made up your mind to be so stubborn! Have you looked into having a mid wife? It is much easier to get your way that way, or so I hear. I am sure that it is a bit late for that decision now, but maybe in the future. (or maybe not) Best wishes for you, and still glad that it isn't me having to do that ever again!!!

You make me laugh:) I would love to be as brave as you. How close is that baby to coming? I don't even think I know when you are due! Good job to Jason on the run and your tile! It looks so good! How very exciting!!
And please do come to my house for an activity!! I would be the happiest girl! I miss you all alot:)

I know that is usually wise to be at the hospital as short amount of time as possible before the birth. Works well. Doctors drive me nuts too!

You are so strong! I know I couldn't decide in advance to go natural -- I hate pain. I think it is funny that the monitor bothers you so much. With all the poking and prodding and back labor, I don't even notice that there is a monitor there. Oh, did I mention how cool you are for going natural?

Girl, it's never too late for a midwife. ESPECIALLY when your hospital is Logan regional. My friend switched to the midwife 6 weeks before the baby was born... so all the tests were done and all there was left to do was go into labor and push out. I LOVED the midwife experience. In a hospital without the pushing poking needling stuff.
No matter how it goes, you are a rock star and amazing. Good luck swatting away the monitor. for you is silent, for me is scream.

Stick to your guns and do as much as you can at home! I absolutely hate mindless Dr.'s and nurses. I've had way too many! The best nurse I ever had went into a panic attack when I stated that I thought I might need a little oxygen because I was getting a little faint. All she could do was run out of the room calling for help. Great... this was the person assigned to "help" me deliver my baby. I won't even mention the surgical tech that was there for my c-section... way too many tatooes and piercings to make me comfortable!
