Today we hiked to Ka'ena Point where we saw a Monk Seal love story. We came upon Mr. Monk climbing out of the ocean and so went around to the other side of the hill. As we were treasure hunting in the washed up coral and finding puki shells...here Mr. Monk came skootin' over the hill. We backed off and encouraged him for a while. He skooted almost to the water and then stopped and waited and waited and waited. We had just given up on him going all the way...when along came Trudy! Mr. Monk jumped in the water and he and Trudy had a frolicking time. They then climbed up on the rocks and took a nap. In the above picture, they are both in the background. Can you find them?
We also saw an older "Blue Jay" couple (two older men--evident by their mention of previous vacations including trips to Ka'ena Point, but a lack of public affection) who we talked to for a bit. They assured us we were going the right way. It was a strange hike...but well worth it in the end!
We saw some of the coolest fish at Hunauma Bay. There was a high tide today so we were able to float out over all the reef (compared to last time where we had to go around or try to climb over). We even saw an Eel! It was awesome!
